Supply Chain Performance Improvement

Overview

A process that is used once a strategy has been set to ensure that the orgainsation is moving forward towards the achievement of its targets. It utilises tools and techniques such as:

  • Process & Interface Mapping
  • Benchmarking
  • Benefits Modelling
  • Facilitation of the Process

Details

For a strategy to be continually successful it should be monitored and reviewed on a regular basis. This in essence is what you do when conducting a Performance Improvement Review, however, instead of looking at the wider strategy level you focus upon the four key business components of the strategy:

  • People - what do we require from them, what can they deliver
  • Process - how are we going to deliver the strategy
  • Technology - what support do we need
  • Infrastructure - what management or organisation is required

To conduct a review we utilise a simple benchmarking type process:

  • Establish where the organisation is now
  • Establish where it would like to (or aspire to) be by some future date (the vision)
  • Analyse the 'gap'
  • At the same time constraints to the achievement of the vision are identified
  • Develop an action plan to 'close the gap' and overcome the constraints

The main activities to achieve the above include:

  • Desk research
  • Management interviews
  • Facilitated workshops
  • Process & Interface Mapping
  • Creation of a high level model and benefits case

Benefits

  • A proven process.
  • We can bring our knowledge of cross industry 'best practice' to bear when analysing potential opportunities.
  • A successful outcome results in some form of 'financial' benefit, eg lower process costs, greater process throughput, or increased sales through improved service levels.
