For this leading NHS Foundation Trust we acted as Purchasing Director during the recruitment of a permanent employee.

Solution

The role had the following responsibilities:

• To ensure that the procurement and materials management functions had suitable contingency arrangements in place to mitigate the impact of the Olympics and Paralympics
• To manage the day to day running of the two teams (8 in procurement and 8 in materials management) to ensure continued support for the delivery of a £4m savings programme
• To facilitate the consultation process in relation to the merger and creation of a shared procurement service with another London Foundation Trust
• To harmonise reporting of procurement activity across the Trust
• To support a number of significant strategic procurements (eg Pathology Service, Medical Illustration Service)
• To critically review the current processes, procedures and ways of working within Procurement and to build a clear improvement action plan and begin delivery of those actions
